The final window

Our final stained glass window is now completed and installed. The theme is “symbols
of our faith.”

The panes or sections of the window are called “lights.” The top of the window shows the
cross and crown, and is flanked by doves on the two sides. The shoulder lights represent
the Christmas rose and the Easter lily. The eight square lights are as follows: the wheat
and grapes representing Holy Communion and the font representing Baptism. The
descending dove of the Methodist church, the burning bush of the Presbyterian church,
and the open Bible of the Congregationalists represent the uniting churches which came
together in 1925 to form the United Church of Canada. The basin and pitcher represent
service, and the lower lights picture the ship, symbol of the church, and the Tree of Life.

The window was created and installed by Atlantic Stained Glass of Halifax.

Anyone wishing to contribute to the cost of the window as a memorial gift is asked
to contact the minister. The cost of one “light” is approximately $1500, but it is not
necessary to cover the whole cost if you wish to have one dedicated in memory of a
loved one. You are asked to contribute whatever you can afford, and you may choose
whichever symbol you feel is appropriate.
